The saying that a 'good worker never blames its tools' does not apply when it comes to makeup!
Good brushes is like 50% of the battle. Now this doesn't mean you need to go out and spend an arm & a leg on expensive brushes. There are so many pocket friendly brush brands that are are available now. This blog post is just all of my favourite brushes which I used on myself and clients on a day to day basis.
I'm condensing down my shamefully large brush collection to show you brushes that are a must have in my opinion.
Face brushes:
Nima brush Domed kabuki brush
Use: Cream contour
This brush is hands down the best cream contour brush I've used. It is dense with the longest hairs being in the centre and the shorter on the outer part of the brush making it a dream to apply and blend out your cream contour. This is a sythecthic brush so it can be used with cream or powders and makes cleaning it so easy.
Nima brush Flat topped kabuki brush
Use: foundation
This brush gives such a flawless finished to the skin. It has been my go since I got my hands on it like two years ago. Unfortunately Nima didn't stock this brush for awhile I noticed so I haven't got it in my kit but for personal use I love it and they do have it back in stock now so ill definitely be buying one for my kit. I like to bounce foundation onto my skin using this rather than circle motions, I use patting motions.
Price: €18.00
Nima brush Angled kabuki brush
Use: bronzer/contour & blusher
I love this brush for bronzing up the face with bronzer. I then like to use the tip of it to contour as it gets right underneath the cheekbones. I also applies blush beautifully. You could also use cream products with this but for some reason I just keep this brush for powders.
Price: €18.00
Nima Brush Round kabuki brush
Used: Setting powder/foundation
I used to use this brush mainly for powders but lately I've been using it to buff in foundation and omg its perfection! It gives the most flawless finish its my favourite brush to use on myself and clients at the moment!
Price: €18.00
I bought mine in a set of four for €50.00 which I think is incerdible value for money.
Zoeva 105/luxe highlight
I love this zoeva brush for highlighting the skin using a powdered highlight.
I also like it for setting the undereye area too. Its fluffy and precise which is why I love it for highlighting.
Price: €17.00
Zoeva 126/luxe cheek finish
I love using this brush to contour using powder. Its fits so prefect under the cheekbones plus its super fluffy which means it doesn't give to harsh of a contour which I like. It is similar to the nima brush domed kabuki in shape but the hairs on this our natural hairs and much longer which makes it much better to use for powders rather than creams.
Price: €19.60
Inglot 4SS
This brush has so many uses. Lots of my friends use it for foundation I personally don't but they love it for that!
I love to use mine to highlight my face with. I love using it on clients to give a seamless blend when applying concealer under their eye after doing eyeshadow. I also like using it after applying foundation with a large brush Ill buff the foundation around the hair line on clients to avoid it getting into their hair when using a large brush.
Eye brushes
Nima brush large & small flat shader brushes.
I love these two flat shader brushes the larger of the two I like to use to set my eyeshadow base. The smaller one I like to use for my brow bone & inner corner highlight. The smaller is great for the lower lash line too.
I got the two flat shader brushes came in a set of five brushes.
Zoeva 221/228 luxe crease brushes.
228 brush.
These two brushes are a must have in my kit i've a good few off each but to tell you the truth there isn't much defference between them. The 228 is slightly more tappered at the top and I do tend to reach for the one more so but both brushes a amazing blending brushes and ether one will do the job but I think I do slightly prefer the 228 than the 221.
221 brush
Both brushes price: €11.70
Zoeva 227/ Luxe soft definer
After going in with 221 or 228 zoeva brush to apply my transition shade, I will go in with this brush to add more definintion to my crease but still buffing it out but usually I dont take this brush as high as my fluffier blending brushes. The smaller and denser the brush the more product it will apply and the lower you usually want to keep it. I also love using this brush to apply my transtion colour to my lower lash liner. Its 100% a must have brush, I have a few off these in my kit. Its so similar to a Mac cosmetics 217 but for half the price.
Price:€11.70
Inglot 6ss
Okay so this is the last blending brush I promise. This brush is amazing when doing a blown out smokey eye. I like too apply my colour with a smaller blending brush and then buff it out with this brush. It gives such a seamless blend effortless. I loveeee this brush.
Zoeva 231 luxe petit crease
This brush makes adding blacks or darker shades fool proof. It is nice and dense but still fluffy blending out darker colours but never too high. It is also my go to brush for the lower lash line.
Price:€11.70
Blank Canvas e24
Zoeva 234/ luxe smoky shader
Again I have lots of theses brushes in my kit because they just come in handy for lots of different things. Both brushes are identical expect for the length of the handle all zoeva brushes are shorter than normal brushes which is great for travel.
I like to use these brushes to highlight my brow bone and inner corner. Its also nice to pack on shadow to the lid or even smoke out liner. I always use one to smoke out the lower lash line. People always forget about detail brushes but they really make a huge difference to the finish of an eye look & make tricky details easier to manage.
Zoeva 234 Price :€11.70
Blank canvas e24 Price: €7.95
Zoeva 230 luxe pencil
This little pencil brush is so small it has so many uses. I like to use this to highlight the inner corner and to blend out the lower lash line. Its the smallest pencil brush i've come across.
Price: €10.40
Blank Canvas E27
This little itty bitty flat shader brush is the cutest brush I own. It comes in handy for everything! I love it and need to buy a few more for my kit. I love to use this to smoke of my winged liner and for adding glitter or highlight to the inner corner.
Price: €6.95
317 wing liner
This brush is brillant to get a sharp winged liner. It is so thin it makes it so straight forward to use with gel liner.
Price: €10.40
Crown brush C158 Angle Liner
This is my favourite brush to do my eyebrows with its thin yet dense which makes it really easy to get a prefect brow. I also love the fact the spooly is on the other end.
Price: €3.91
322 brow line
I love this brush to sculpt out my brows with concealer.
Price: €10.40
315 fine liner
This is the best pointed liner brush i've used the hairs are nice and short which makes it really easy to draw a wing. It also has a nice bend which makes it easy to apply liner all the way in to the inner corner. If you think using a liquid liner easier than gel you haven't used this brush because it makes it so fool proof.
Price: €10.40
Sorry if that was very long, but these are honestly brush I would recommend to anyone starting up a collection.
Hope you got some benefit from this post.
